Blog Assignment 4: Engagement

Over the past week, we have learned about engagement in the classroom. One thing that I definitly learned about engagment is if the students are engaged, they are learning! We have also been creating our own online course. This has been.... interesting.. to say the least. Even though it has been a lot of work, I have honestly enjoyed doing this type of assignment because it is something I have never done before. I guess I have really never thought about how much really goes into creating an online course... but goodness, its been a lot and we are not even done yet! I do not believe I have any concerns this week, other than trying to get everything completed! Everytime I would think I was completed with the Course Outline Assignment, I would check the rubric and have to add something else! Im suuuureee Dr. Gale will let me know if I am missing anything or need to change something! :)

  1. Brittany, I agree that creating an online course is a ton of work. I like how Dr. Gale will let you know what you need to do and gives great feedback in timely manner. This course has been a lot of fun so far and has taught me a lot of new things and great ideas. Good luck in the future!

  2. Okay Brittany, first I like the image you put in, now for the rest. I also like the fact that Dr. Gale is willing to do more than just put a requirement out there and let us flounder in the cyber world.
You are right, when you engage your students, they learn much better. Take that thought and remember it when you do your internship. I think that was one of the biggest things I learned during my first internship since I had a 5th grade and a kindergarten class, both needed a ton of engaging to help them focus and learn. When I did my second internship I did the same thing with the health portion of the high school PE classes I had to teach. The students only wanted to do physical activities but the state requires some textbook learning. What I discovered is if I created something that engaged them in an activity that was related to what we were studying in the book, they were more willing to participate. I figured out very quickly, my high school students were nothing more than taller kindergarten students and engagement was the answer to keep them focused.
